The Westside Ronins took the field as the defending Siggy 7s tournament champions with their spirits charged for a run to nationals. This was the first time the Siggy 7s tournament was a regional qualifier event. The host Ronins were excited for the challenge with 3 teams competing across the 2 mens pools.
The Ronins top side made it through pool play with three wins, while Ronins Koula managed to advance with a win, loss and tie. This pit the two sides against each other in a smashing semi final match up. Ronins knocked off Ronins Koula with clinical offense and a stubborn defense.
This meant that the Ronins squared off against the Washington Athletic Club in the final. Ronins started off hot and jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half. After some solid defense throughout the match, the Ronins proceeded to push their advantage to 28-0 before the final whistle.
With the successful championship, Ronins won the tournament prize of $1,000 for the club. In addition to that, Westside Ronins donated 10% of the proceeds from the tournament to Siggy’s Memorial Foundation.
