Ronins Win Pacific NW Regional to Qualify for Nationals

Westside Ronins earned a spot in the Regional Qualifier for the Pacific Northwest in San Francisco, CA. The Ronins faced off against Olympic Club and Life West first side for pool play.

The first qualifier match started slow for the Ronins. Handling errors kept Olympic Club within striking distance at the end of the first half. Some stout defensive efforts kept Olympic Club without a score and Ronins sealed the match 22-0.

In the second pool match, Ronins took aim at a talented Life West side. Ronins were not intimidated and brought the same defensive effort to keep Life West wanting for a try. Through some smart play, Ronins managed to win the game 12-0 and took the top seed of the pool.

In the semi-finals, Sacramento would be the challenge in front of the Ronins. It was a one sided affair though, as the Ronins found their stride and defeated them handily 32-7.

Life West White knocked off Washington Athletic Club in the other semi-final to earn a rematch against the Ronins. Life West had some good fortune early on with plenty of possession jumping out to a 19-0 lead. A late score in the first half by the Ronins put them back in the fight. In the second half the Ronins put their grit to the test and powered past Life West 26-19. A score at the end of the game gave Life West an opportunity to tie the match with a conversion kick. The kick was short and the Ronins won 26-24 in a come from behind win.

This tournament win qualified the Westside Ronins for USA Club 7s Nationals in Kansas City, Missouri August 10-11. The Ronins earned the top seed and their first Pacific Northwest Regional 7s Championship with the win.
